United Communications 365 integrates Microsoft Teams with external telephony, enabling a mobile workforce. The traditional desk phone merges with Teams instant messaging, offering device-based communication on various platforms, including certified meeting room endpoints or standalone shared phone handsets.

Service Summary

Unified Communications integrates instant messaging (Teams Chat) with traditional telephony services to support a mobile workforce. By combining desk phone functionality with Microsoft Teams’ messaging capabilities, users can communicate via any device running the Teams app, Microsoft Teams meeting room endpoints, or compatible standalone phone handsets used in reception areas or similar settings.

The connection between the Microsoft Teams system and the public switched telephone network (PSTN) is facilitated by a telecommunications provider. In some cases, existing phone numbers and services may need to be ported to the provider before integrating PSTN with Teams.

Internal calls within an organisation, including those between geographically dispersed users, are managed entirely within Microsoft Teams, eliminating long-distance charges. For external calls outside the organization, integrated PSTN services are utilized.

Licensing and service provision costs are billed through the standard quarterly service subscription process, while PSTN call charges are directly invoiced by Telstra to the relevant department or agency.

The service comes with two delivery models, fully managed and co-managed.
